To know what you are, you must first investigate and know what you are not.Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj
The mind creates a false reality of words and symbols. Which is great when dealing with others, but traps us in the unreal.
Reality is to go beyond the word and mind. To observe the thoughts and symbols as they appear and disappear.
Take notice that every time a thought arises it ultimately evaporates. Like a cloud passing by you are the observer.
Everything that is outside of you is a milestone in life. Your only teacher is your inner teacher. The outside teacher will appear in any form. Your role is to observe what the lesson is to be learned.
Eventually, there will not be a need for an external teacher because you will transend words and symbols and realize that the inner teacher is the only. Realizing that the only thing in life is to live.
There will be a multitude of circumstances that will have no effect on you.
Watch the body. Watch the mind. Observe.
Pain and pleasure happen, but pain is the price of pleasure, and pleasure is the reward of pain. In life too, you often please by hurting and hurt by pleasing. To know that pain and pleasure are one is peace.Page 145
You cannot change another. As they are living out there own story. All you can do is be the observer of your body and mind and watch the course of events while keeping unattached.
The Mastery of Love by Don Miguel Ruiz talks how every relationship is 50/50. All you have to take care of is your 50.
