My Coffee Cocktail is a staple of daily routines. Follow along and enjoy everything about this cocktail while you read. Enjoy my humor, learn my portions and the benefits of the ingredients I use.
It starts with the a couple beans ground up. Place it in a filter and add the water. Depending on the type of extraction process will determine how much of the flavor you will get from the coffee.
The coffee is the base, the foundation. Packed with antioxidants and stimulating effects. Antioxidants help reduce inflammation. Inflammation is great to reduce if you want to live a healthy life. The stimulation may aid in weight loss. I want to be careful with any medical claims because I am not a doctor. That being said, “do whatever the fuck you wanna do” as the Hodgetwins would say.
Next we have the butter. No, “I can’t believe it’s not butter” is not an option. Packed with trans fat this is not an option. Products with trans fat should be required to place a skull and bones emblem on there packaging. Stay away satan.
The butter should be 100% grassfed organic butter. I prefer Kerrygold unsalted butter, but there may be others out there that are comparable. Peel away the packaging and shave off a tablespoon of that delicious yellow block. Toss it in the blender with your warm coffee to allow it to soften.
We have been marketed to about how bad fat is for us. Kind of lied to. Now we have the information to know better! Not all fat is created equal, and when eaten with high amounts of carbs and sugar will likely cause problems, basically inflammation. The inflammation will oxidize the fat in the body and get those clean pipes, arteries, clogged.
Fat is satiating and flavorful!. All these fat free products took out the flavor. Infused with an unhealthy amount of sugar to bring back the flavor. Fat is slow digesting. Instead of getting that burst of caffeine the butter will help slowly spread out the effects making your cup of joe more enjoyable and flavorful!
Also known as Medium-chain triglycerides. I like to think of this as a concentrated form of coconut oil. I may be wrong, but I know coconut oil is involved. MCT oil will help you get into ketosis. When the body is fasting it utilizes the fat on the body for energy, ketosis. Eating fat and staying away from carbs/sugar can keep the body in that ketosis state. Measure about a tablespoon of MCT oil and add it to the blender. The brand I am currently using is Onnit.
I try to push my fasting windows as long as I can because I love the clarity of the fasted state.
Warning: don’t use to much to begin, and make sure a bathroom is nearby.
Lions Mane Mushroom
Take a trip to the Savannah and bring your clippers. The best approach to acquiring the lions mane is to wait until the lion is asleep. Make sure you have a bag in hand to collect. I’m just kidding, you don’t have to risk your life. There is a mushroom that looks like the mane of a lion, lions mane mushroom. If you haven’t already read I like to have a laugh. (insert laughing emoji here)
The Lions Mane Mushroom is your cognitive friend. I use an extracted powder, and measure about a teaspoon to use. Into the blender it goes!
This coffee cocktail should really be titled The Cognitive Cocktail. Lions mane mushroom helps with mental clarity, focus, and nervous system support. Take these claims with a grain of salt and try it for yourself. Okay, so we added focus and mental clarity boosting ingredients on top of a fasted state. I think we are sitting pretty good.

To be honest I just started adding this to the cocktail because I found it for free on our free food shelf here at the Ember Hostel Denver.
I had to look into what it was after I found it. A brief google search, “Benefits of maca powder” states increased libido, reduces erectile dysfunction, increased energy and endurance.. Sounds good to me. A nice tablespoon of maca into the blender!
If you didn’t think the coffee had enough antioxidants dump a tablespoon of raw 100% cacao powder. Feel the weightless clarity every sip of the way.
I read a study once that cacao acts similar to cannabis and increases ones mood. Remember I am not a doctor 😉
It adds a delicious chocolate flavor, and who doesn’t like a little chocolate.

Paul Stammets is the founder of HostDefense and I love his products. This is not an ad for HostDefense. This is just what I use. After studying more about Paul Stammets I became fascinated with fungi. His life is fungi, Paul even has a bucket hat made of fungi that he wears.

There you have it, this is my cognitive (coffee) cocktail that I make every morning. As I write this I just drank the last sip and am feeling ready to take on the day. I read a great portion of the current book i’m reading, Tribes by Seth Godin, and typed up this.
How do you start your mornings? Is it hitting the snooze button ten times? There are studies showing how hitting the snooze and staying in bed is detrimental to your health. Not a doctor.
